🗓 Day 1
🛬 Arrival in Amman with Alitalia.
🇯🇴 After passport control, meeting with our local guide, Ahmed. Let's change some money and start our journey!
Places visited along the route:
📍 Umm Qais
📍 Ajlun
📍 Jerash
📍 Dead Sea
Tips
💡 We organized this trip with the local agency Jordan Select Tours. We have contacted them several times before the trip to customize the itinerary based on our needs and they provided us with a driver, Ahmed, for the entire trip. We had a very good time with them.
💡 We arrived in the middle of the night and decided to start the itinerary straight away, so at 4am we left for Umm Qais, on the border with Syria and Israel. Umm Qais, also known as Gadara in ancient times, is an extraordinary archaeological site that offers a connection to Roman and Byzantine history. We arrived at dawn, when it was still closed, but we managed to enter easily and visit it in complete solitude.
🗓 Day 2
Tips
💡 Wadi Mujib, known as Jordan's "Grand Canyon", offers a unique trekking experience. We explored narrow gorges, waterfalls and natural pools. This canyon offers adrenaline-filled adventures and an opportunity to discover the beauty of the Middle East's unspoiled nature.
During the route there are somewhat challenging stretches, where I personally doubted whether to continue or not, but precisely at those points there are park guides who help you climb against the current and who give you the necessary information.
We finally made it to the end and it was worth it.
💡 After the effort made at Wadi Mujib, we relaxed during the afternoon at Dead Sea. Floating in the mineral-rich salt water and experiencing the natural relaxation of its waters and mud was a unique experience.
Be careful not to get the Dead Sea water into your mouth and eyes!
🗓 Day 3
Tips
💡 Along the journey from the Dead Sea to Petra there is the possibility of enriching the itinerary with an immersion in the history, art and culture of Jordan by visiting Madaba, Mount Nebo and Karak. Madaba offers ancient mosaics, while Monte Nebo offers breathtaking biblical views. Karak has a majestic Crusader castle.
💡 Upon arriving in Petra in the evening, we dined on Jordanian dishes at one of the local restaurants in the city.
🗓 Day 4
Tips
💡 Day dedicated to discovering Petra, one of the most spectacular and iconic archaeological sites in the world. We took an initial tour with a tour guide who explained the details of the historic site to us. After that we continued on our own exploring the famous Siq Gorge, the Treasury (Al Khazneh), the Roman Theater, the Street of Colonnades, among other points of interest.
We walked for 18 km with countless ups and downs, so comfortable shoes (sports or trekking) are essential.
🗓 Day 5
Places to visit along the route:
📍 Petra
Tips
💡 Second day dedicated to Petra, this time entirely independently. We walked the routes we hadn't done the previous day and went up to theMonastery, which is an ancient rock-cut structure, located in the upper part of Petra. The climb to the Monastery can be challenging but rewarding. It requires a hike of approximately 1.5/2 hours, with approximately 800 steep steps. However, the panoramic view and the magnificent Monastery are worth the effort.
💡 We watched the show Petra by Night. Walking through the candle-lit Siq and arriving at the illuminated Treasury is truly enchanting. The evening show, with Bedouin music and stars above, adds a magical atmosphere.
🗓 Day 6
Tips
💡 Little Petra, or Siq al-Barid, is a hidden and less frequented gem in Jordan. This archaeological site offers a similar experience to Petra, but on a smaller scale, with magnificent rock-cut facades and Nabataean art
💡 TheWadi Rum it was the first desert I visited in my life and I completely fell in love. I highly recommend sleeping at least one night in a transparent tent, like the Martian tent to the Sun City Camp because offers a unique experience with a panoramic view of the starry sky and the impressive desert landscape. From your tent you can admire the stars and enjoy the magical atmosphere of the desert.
During the afternoon we did a jeep safari in the desert until sunset: spectacular!
🗓 Day 7
Tips
💡 Before breakfast we had a sunrise camel ride in Wadi Rum. It was a magical and evocative experience. As the sun rises over the desert, you can enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the surrounding landscape and the bright colors of the desert.
💡 Even if it wasn't scheduled, we added an express stop at the last moment to do some snorkeling in Aqaba (thanks to our driver Ahmed and his contacts).
🗓 Day 8
Departure from Amman. See you next time, Jordan!
We have added 5 days at the seaside in Cyprus before returning to Italy since there were Ryanair flights from Amman to Paphos and from Paphos to Rome.
Tips
️💡 We dedicated the morning to visiting the archaeological treasures and markets of Amman. We bought a lot of tea, spices and some pashminas.
