🗓 Day 1
Arrival in Laion in the evening and overnight at Gschloierhof.
Tips
💡 The apartment was very new and very clean, and the welcome was great. It is also located in a strategic point to visit all the places we wanted to visit.
🗓 Day 2
🌙 Night at Gschloierhof, Laion
Tips
💡 To travel in Trentino in December, equip your car with winter tires or snow chains on board to deal with snowy conditions. Make sure you have the necessities for emergencies, considering winter weather, and check the weather conditions before you start each route.
💡 To visit beautiful Lake Braies, plan your trip in advance, checking the weather conditions (we found the lake almost completely frozen and the parking lot not the road half frozen). I recommend arriving early to avoid crowds and taking a walk around the lake. In some seasons you need to make reservations online; check accessibility on the official website first.
💡 Bruneck was one of the villages I enjoyed the most. The Christmas market is really fabulous and the old town is lovely as well. It is 100% worth a visit.
🗓 Day 3
Tips
💡 In winter, Lake Carezza transforms into an enchanted landscape. The crystal clear waters can freeze over, creating an ice show. The nearby Carezza ski area offers opportunities for skiing and snowboarding, making the lake a picturesque attraction during the cold season. From late November to early January there is usually a Christmas market around the lake. Unfortunately, this year there was not but I hope that next years they decide to organize it again because with that view it must be a magical experience.
💡 Moena in winter is an Alpine enchantment with lit streets and glittering snow. Traditional Christmas markets and quaint architecture add a charming touch to the winter landscape. Beware of the roads because they may be snowy and difficult to navigate if not properly equipped.
💡 The center of Ortisei is very nice, but very small. If you are passing through, however, it is worth a visit.
💡 Bressanone surprised me so much with its enchanted old town and magical atmosphere thanks also to its Christmas markets. Having lunch or dinner some typical dishes accompanied by a nice mulled wine or German beer in one of the wooden huts in the center is a must!
🗓 Day 4
Tips
💡 Bolzano and Merano are also worth visiting, especially in winter with its wonderful Christmas markets. In these towns you will also find the famous Forst breweries where you can eat and drink very well. If you go at a busy time (Immaculate Conception bridge or weekend), I recommend making reservations, otherwise you risk not finding a place.
💡 You can't go to Trentino in the winter time and not spend at least a few hours relaxing and regenerating your peace of mind. We spent the afternoon in the spa at the smart hotel Prinz Rudolf, very close to Merano. This spa offers a panoramic heated infinity pool. The facility is new and clean and they provide you with a spa bag with the necessities (slippers, towel and bathrobe). We paid 30€ per person for the afternoon entrance (3-7 pm).
🗓 Day 5
Tips
💡 We stopped to visit Trento's historic center and Christmas markets, where we grabbed something on the fly to eat. We would have liked to have had lunch at the Forsterbräu in Trent, but unfortunately it was full. It will be for next time.
💡 Another recommended stop before leaving Trentino, and if you have time on your hands, is the fabulous Lake Garda.
🌙 Night at home
See you next time, Trentino! 👋🏼
