🇶🇦 Qatar

Qatar is often a transit country for other destinations towards Asia or Africa. With time on our hands, we tend to visit the cities we stopover in and Doha is usually one of them. Doha allows you to explore vibrant Qatari culture in a short time through the iconic Corniche, modern skyline, Qatar National Museum and Souq Waqif.

Here are some photos of Doha:

🗓 Day 1

🛬 Arrival in Doha with Qatar Airways.

🇶🇦 After passport control, we leave the airport and take a taxi towards the city.

Places visited:

📍 Museo Nazionale del Qatar: Admire the unique architecture and learn about the history, culture and heritage of Qatar.

📍 Corniche: Enjoy a stroll along the waterfront overlooking Doha's modern skyline.

📍 Katara Cultural Village: Discover local art, music and culture in this cultural village.

📍 The Pearl-Qatar: Explore this luxurious area with shops, restaurants and cafes along the canal.

📍 Mosque Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab

📍 Souq Waqif: Have lunch at one of the traditional restaurants in the market.

Tips

💡 To get around always use Uber instead of local taxis: it costs much less, you can pay with the app and you already know how much you will pay without surprises. With local taxis you risk paying double (personal experience).

💡 The best sleeping area it is the one in the downtown, near the Souq Waqif. Our hotel, the Gloria Hotel & Suites Doha, it was new, clean and €2 by taxi from Souq Waqif and we paid less than €50 for the night.

💡 Very suggestive panorama of the skyline at sunset walking along the Corniche.

💡 Remember that you are in a Muslim country. To respect cultural norms, wear modest and sober clothing. For women, cover your shoulders and knees, opt for light fabrics and always carry a light scarf to cover your head if necessary. For men, avoid shorts and sleeveless t-shirts.

🗓 Day 2

Places visited:

📍 Museum of Islamic Art: Admire the collection of Islamic art in this iconic museum designed by I.M. Pei.

📍 Souq Waqif: Have lunch at one of the traditional restaurants in the market.

📍 Falcon Souq: discover the tradition of falconry and admire magnificent falcons.

📍 Msheireb village: Explore Qatar's first sustainable city with traditional and contemporary architecture.

📍 Dhow Cruise: Conclude your visit with a cruise in a traditional dhow along the Corniche.

📍 Souq Waqif: discover the Doha market even during the evening

Tips

💡 If you have time available, you could add some activities in the desert of Doha as a safari off-road through the dunes, the sand boarding sliding down the sand dunes with a board, you turn inQuad, walks to camel through the desert, Bedouin dinner or discover the art of falconry.

Be sure to plan these activities with a travel agency or an expert guide to ensure a safe and authentic visit to the Doha desert.

💡 Enjoy the environment of Souq Waqif during the evening: do some shopping, drink some tea, taste a mint lemonade or eat some local dishes.
